The fast food industry has been looking for a solid replacement for meat, but nobody’s been able to replicate the oh-so-savory taste of Black Angus beef just yet. These plant-based alternatives are threatening to upend a niche of the food market that’s had a long love affair with tradition.
Impossible Foods and its fellow meat-alternative companies have had lots of success in recent years. Carl’s Jr. helped popularize the concept with the help of Beyond Meat. This version of the vegetarian burger is now available at thousands of Carl’s Jr. locations across the United States. According to The New York Times, White Castle has also dipped its toes into the vegetarian market.

While Burger King’s initial test market will be in St. Louis, MO, it will be the largest company to offer such a meal. If successful, the item could be rolled out to the chain’s more than 7,000 locations. And The New York Times is reporting that this is indeed the company’s plan.
The Impossible Whopper will be available at 59 different locations in the St. Louis area during the test period. But if the initial excitement rings true, then you’ll have your chance to try it very, very soon.
