Summer is in full swing and we're headed into another weekend - so you know what that means. It's time for your Central Alabama Weekend Update! Here's what you can enjoy over the next few days.

Georges' River Market and Butchery Grand Opening

Georges’ River Market & Butchery in Wetumpka is set for a grand opening this weekend. There will be a ribbon cutting on Friday at noon, and on Saturday, you can show up for music, food samples, door prizes, hourly giveaways and so much more. And get this – the first 25 customers on Saturday get a free gift card!

If you’re a cinephile, then you’ll want to hear about this next one. The Montgomery Film Festival kicks off on Friday night at the Capri Theatre with a special showing of Akira, one of the most renowned anime films ever. Then, on Saturday, you can show up to see films made by pros and amateurs alike. Many of them are made by folks right here in this community!

'Flipping the 334' Career Fair at That's My Dog, Jr.

Saturday morning brings our responsible selves out, as That’s My Dog, Jr. and That’s My Child are hosting the “Flipping the 334” Career Fair. More than 15 businesses will be on-site conducting interviews, and things kick off at 9:00 a.m. So get those resumes polished up and don’t forget to grab a hot dog while you’re there!

Animal Enrichment Day at the Montgomery Zoo

And last on our list but certainly not least is Animal Enrichment Day on the Montgomery Zoo. There will be special presentations given at each of the zoo’s exhibits from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 that afternoon, each one lasting about 15 minutes. So, if you wanted to learn more about tigers, lemurs, or something else entirely, this one’s a good bet!
