Rolled Ice Cream is the New Summer Craze at Montgomery’s Ice King

Ice King is the number one stop for you and yours to get rolled ice cream. It's the new summer hit, and you're missing out if you haven't tried it yet.

Ice cream is a time-honored summer treat. Fans of the cold dessert have been enjoying it for years, and there’s good reason for that: it’s delicious. However, there’s a new twist on ice cream that’s got long-time fans turning their heads, and it’s called rolled ice cream.

This delectable treat began its life in Thailand and has since spread its wings to envelop much of the world. You can get rolled ice cream pretty much anywhere these days, and we’re happy to tell you that includes Montgomery, Alabama. There’s a quiet business tucked away into a shopping center on Zelda Road serving up this twist on ice cream. Ever since they opened in August of 2016, they’ve seen huge support from the community and are even looking to expand their business into other parts of the South.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. Check out the video we put together on their fabulous restaurant. We talked to employees Michelle Miramontes and Josh Schachte to learn more about Ice King. During our visit, they told us all about this new ice cream phenomenon, and what it’s like when they see others try it for the first time.

Ice King opens around noon on most days and stays active until 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday; on other days, they shut down an hour earlier. A typical bowl of rolled ice cream will run you just over $6.00, and there are other treats to enjoy such as Ice King’s unique take on cheese balls. They dip the classic snack into liquid nitrogen, and when you bite into it, you can blow smoke out of your mouth. It’s super cool, and we caught that action in our video up above.
