Do you like music? How about supporting high schools across the Southeast? Maybe you like both? Then we’ve got just the thing for you! The Capital City Classic show choir competition is coming to the Montgomery Performing Arts Center on January 25 and 26.
The show has been running for ten years already, and Tallassee High School – who is sponsoring the competition – wants to make year 11 better than ever. There will be a total of 43 choirs from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia in attendance. Further, thousands of students, parents, and fans are expected to show up for the occasion.
Here are some cool facts about the event:
- There will be 22 mixed groups
- Four women’s groups
- One men-only group
- and 13 middle school groups
The hosts of the event will be the Tallassee “Divas,” Tallassee “Gold Edition,” and Tallassee “New Image.” We don’t know yet who will be the judges, and ticket prices have not been posted. You can watch this space for more updates on these.
Last year, Auburn High School’s “Varsity Singers” walked away with first place in the highly competitive “Tier 1” category, winning out in myriad categories:
- Best Vocals
- Best Choreography
- Best Show Design
- Best Soloist
Behind them, Tift County High School’s “8th Street Singing Company” followed with a win in the “Best Band” category; Enterprise High School’s “Encores” took third with no individual honors.
The first performance hits the stage at 6:35 p.m. on Jan. 25.
The Montgomery Performing Arts Center is located at 201 Tallapoosa Street, Montgomery, AL 36104.
