One of Steven Spielberg’s most critically acclaimed movies comes in the form of 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Unbeknownst to most, portions of the film were actually recorded right here in Alabama! In particular, one of the movie’s most iconic sets – the house where many of the film’s supernatural events take place – resides down in Fairhope.
Commercial photographer Mark Baggs snapped a few photos of the house, which he shared to social media back in April. “Close Encounters house is up for lease in Fairhope,” he wrote to his Facebook Page:
Nothing in the real estate listing even discusses that it was the Close Encounters house, but it’s pretty apparent. You can lease the house for $1,800 a month, and it’s being marketed as an office space. So, it’s probably not the best buy for those of you looking to make it your home.
If you’re like me, you’ll find this spot pricey – but it can’t hurt to drive past one day now that you know where it is! (Source: Gulf Coast MLS)
So, what do you say? Are you going to start the next Apple or Microsoft in the attic of this old set piece? Rumor has it that aliens approach from the treeline at dusk to help you come up with new ideas…
